Your Wild Wyoming Adventure Awaits

Welcome to Togwotee Mountain Lodge

Thank you for booking your stay at Togwotee Mountain Lodge! Nestled high in the mountains at 8,600 feet elevation on the edge of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, our lodge offers an authentic backcountry experience just 16 miles from Grand Teton National Park and 47 miles from Yellowstone's South Gate.

This isn't your typical resort; it's a genuine mountain wilderness destination. The same remoteness that makes Togwotee so spectacular also means you'll be far from urban conveniences. We want you to arrive prepared for the adventure of a lifetime.

Elevation & Mountain Weather

At nearly 9,000 feet, our location offers breathtaking views, and thin mountain air. Guests arriving from lower elevations may experience altitude effects including shortness of breath, fatigue, or headaches.

We recommend:

  • Staying well-hydrated before and during your visit
  • Taking it easy the first day to acclimate
  • Consulting your physician if you have respiratory or cardiac conditions
  • Bringing any necessary medications or supplemental oxygen if prescribed

Wyoming mountain weather is legendary, and unpredictable. Temperatures can range from well below zero to the 80s°F, sometimes with dramatic swings in a single day. Winter storms can bring heavy snowfall, and summer afternoons may include thunderstorms. Always pack layers, rain gear, and be prepared for conditions to change rapidly.

Wildlife Encounters

One of the privileges of staying at Togwotee is sharing this landscape with remarkable wildlife. Our property and surrounding areas are home to grizzly bears, black bears, moose, elk, wolves, and mountain lions. While sightings can be thrilling, these are wild animals deserving of respect and distance.

Before arriving, please familiarize yourself with wildlife safety practices:

  • Never approach, feed, or attempt to photograph wildlife at close range
  • Keep food secured and dispose of trash properly
  • Make noise while hiking to avoid surprising animals
  • Carry bear spray and know how to use it (available for purchase at our retail shop) ARAMARK
  • Give all wildlife at least 100 yards of space (300 yards for bears and wolves)

Remote Location & Infrastructure

Togwotee Mountain Lodge operates on well water, generator backup power, and mountain infrastructure. While we work diligently to provide comfortable accommodations, please understand that:

  • Cell service is limited or unavailable in many areas
  • Severe weather may occasionally affect utilities or road access
  • The nearest hospital is approximately 45 minutes away in Jackson
  • Emergency medical services may have delayed response times due to road and weather conditions

We encourage guests to bring any essential medications, inform us of medical conditions at check-in, and ensure someone back home knows your travel plans.

Preparing for Your Adventure

To make the most of your Togwotee experience, we recommend:

  • Filling your gas tank before arriving here on property otherwise, the nearest stations are in Dubois or Moran Junction
  • Downloading offline maps, as GPS may be unreliable
  • Packing appropriate footwear for uneven terrain
  • Bringing sunscreen and sunglasses, UV exposure is intense at altitude
  • Checking road conditions before departure, especially in winter months

Embrace the Wild

The challenges of this environment are inseparable from its magic. The same remoteness that requires preparation rewards you with unspoiled wilderness, stunning night skies unmarred by light pollution, and the rare experience of true mountain solitude. Whether you're here to race through pristine powder on a snowmobile, hike the vast glades bordering two of America's most treasured national parks, or simply sit on your cabin porch watching the sunset paint the Tetons, you're in for something special.

We can't wait to welcome you to Togwotee.
