"High in the Rockies overlooking the Grand Tetons, there's a place above and away from it all, where you can beat the crowd of Jackson Hole and Yellowstone National Park. You can still get all the best, the nonpareil wildlife viewing of Yellowstone, the day hikes with breathtaking views at the Tetons, but lose yourself in true peace and quiet...it's called Togwotee Mountain Lodge, a small settlement of log cabins, a lodge, a store and a restaurant, set outside of Yellowstone's southern entrance, about 17 miles from the nearest town. In a 100-mile radius of the Tetons and Yellowstone, there is no better hideaway to use as a base camp, where you can still enjoy recreation adventure amid one of the world's greatest natural treasures and not feel as if you have been in a battle to pull it off... Put it all together – the hidden cabins, the wildlife, the hikes – and you get one of the greatest recreational travel experiences available anywhere in the world... Near the Continental Divide at Togwotee Pass, we found this woodsy-style lodge and small development, set at an elevation of 8,600 feet...the log cabin was in stellar condition, knotty pine interior, clean and well equipped, including a kitchenette...less pricey than Jackson.... To take in the entire panorama, from Cowboy Village we climbed up to the top of Angle Mountain, summiting at 10,204 feet on the Continental Divide. With nary a soul in range, we absorbed the sweeping 360, across the valley to the Tetons, the Elk Refuge, South Yellowstone, and up and down the crest of the Rocky Mountains. In the moment, there seemed perfect quiet." - Tom Stienstra |
"We have snowmobiled all over Colorado, but every year we get spoiled for a week by coming here.... The terrain is just so wide open. There is a lot of tree riding, hill climbing, powder or whatever you want. It is just phenomenal. ...The guides here are great. We always hire one. Not only do they know where the best snow and great terrain is, but they just make the trip a better experience...it is just so nice to come to Togwotee Mountain Lodge. You ride all day, get in the hot tub and have happy hour and dinner. We just really enjoy it." - Cindy Emer |
"Dear Togwotee Mountain Lodge.... Me and my family loved our stay at your resort. We will surely tell our friends about your lodge.... Your services are great!! The Maid Service is wonderful! They are so nice. They serve very well. They got everything we needed. They certainly make it easier and they do their job well...the lodge is wonderful!!!! Your lodge is so cool! Our cabin is cozey and has very nice things. Although I sleep on the couch, I sleep wonderful...you tell so much information!!!! Your books, maps and employees give out so much information! If we had enough time and read all of it, we would know almost EVERYTHING about the resort... There are NO problems...at least no problems that the resort has caused." - The Summers and Ali, age 9 (as written by Ali). |
"We like the lodge and the services offered here, especially the step-out-the-door snowmobiling. ...We like the snowmobile guides. They are knowledgeable about the area and adapt easily to all abilities. Staff service was better than ever." - John and Peggy Dulaney |
"The cabins (at Togwotee) are nicely built and warm – a splendid touch in an area where the average daytime winter temperature hovers around zero.... For the destination-type rider, food is important. After a hearty meal or two at Togwotee Mountain Lodge, visitors will understand why so many people make an annual trek to the getaway resort. ...After appetizers and happy hour in the Red Fox Saloon, guests are treated to the type of meal usually found only in a four-star restaurant perched high atop urban skyscrapers... Togwotee Mountain Lodge formerly Cowboy Village Resort has long been considered THE DESTINATION RESORT for the snowmobiling public. However, additions and renovations have also made the resort an outstanding getaway for those who wish to do nothing but escape the valley and relax... Summer activities include a wide variety of horseback trips, including multi-day excursions into the Teton or Gros Ventre wilderness. There are also guided fishing trips. The resort offers several different mountain bike tours." - Tom Bie |
"Little know Togwotee's claim to winter fame is its unparalleled excellence as a snow-bound playground... The Togwotee Mountain Lodge is a snug and unfussy timber lodge. It has a Grizzly's Grill, a bar with pool table and jukebox, 20 double rooms upstairs and a cluster of log cabins set around it... Snowmobile trail rides can last all day, after which riders don't move far from the blazing fire in the hotel lounge. With your own snowshoes, guests can choose to get around at a far less hectic pace, trekking across virgin snow, wandering through the surrounding, silent woods and enjoying marvelous and unsullied views of the Teton Range... This is magnificent wilderness county. At Togwotee in winter, you'll see and experience much more of it than you'd ever expect." - Rob Woodburn, Australian visitor |
"At Togwotee Mountain Lodge, we were taken to cozy log cabins, toasty warm despite snow drifts that climbed halfway up the windows and made passing through the doorway like entering an igloo. The Polaris and Arctic Cat snowmobiles were kept parked outside our cabins each night: sleek, metallic-painted machines ready to do our bidding...The growing camaraderie was most evident when we returned in the evening, tired and happy to the lodge and gathered for the communal dinner at the long dining table set specially for us. We ate with wolfish appetites and swapped tales from another day of shared adventure... At night, there was a chance to lower your tired body into a hot tub or warm yourself by the fireplace in the lodge where flames climbed a high stack of split logs. The cabins also had fireplaces, with fatwood outside the front door, but most of us were too tired to strike a match, much less gather a bundle... A trip of this sort is bound to draw people together, whether mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, whole families or groups from work, school, or church. It places you in a different world for a time and makes you more receptive to forming new connections with each other. It gives you the time, free of distractions, to be with one another" - Barry Parker |
